Fall 2009 Fashion Week – Backstage at Preen

SHOW: PreenMAKEUP: James Kaliardos for MACHAIR: Paul HanlonBEAUTY SHAPSHOT: Modern Mod

THE SCOOP: The preening backstage at Preen may have been slighty 1960s-inspired, but the look was in no way outdated. MAC makeup artist James Kaliardos created a bold eye with heavy, black eyeshadow and a touch of white, and by lining the entire rim. The rest of the face remained relatively untouched. “We wanted to something graphic and strong,” explained Kaliardos, a long-time Preen collaborator. Stylist Paul Hanlon said the hair was “super simple” and “slightly masculine.” Sideswept fringe and glassy, straight ponytails dominated. (Hanlon mentioned “Quadrophenia,” a 1980s film about 1960s London mods, as an inspiration.)

FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK – A Minute With: Model Jess Stam at the Catherine Holstein Show

By Annie Georgia Greenberg for Refinery 29

What is your fashion history with Catherine Holstein? Cate … err … sorry!Catherine and I are the oldest friends! I love to shop with her because she has a phenomenal sense of style, and it really comes through in this collection. If you designed a clothing line how close to Catherine’s would it be? It would definitely not be as cool or as fashionable.

Which of the newest pieces are are we most likely to see you wearing?Well, I’m actually wearing one of her shirts right now, not sure if it’s new but other than that I love the low cut, black crushed velvet dress.

Fall 2009 Fashion Week – Backstage at Baby Phat/KLS

SHOW: Baby Phat/KLS CollectionMAKEUP: James Kaliardos, Key Artist for MACHAIR: Odile GilbertBEAUTY SNAPSHOT: First Lady glam

THE SCOOP: Baby Phat’s Fall 2009 collection was inspired by the strength, tenacity and beauty of the American woman, and who better represents that woman than Michelle Obama. And the hair and makeup was just as classic as our First Lady.

Celebrity hairstylist Odile Gilbert described the look she created as “big, beautiful, and Baby Phat!” Long curly extensions were added to the models’ hair, teased, cut, and curled to mimic Michelle’s famous medium-length coif.

James Kaliardos drew inspiration from Michelle’s “classic, soft, pretty look” but “bumped it up a little bit” to stay true to the essence of Baby Phat. For Kaliardos, it was all about sculpting to create a contoured face. The makeup artist used a nude sculpting foundation and applied nude shadows horizontally into the eye crease to add definition. Eyelids were topped with a pinkish-gold for some sparkle and cheeks were peach, pink or fuchsia (depending on the model’s complexion). Individual lashes were applied to make them “feathery, light, and open” and the top lashes were stroked in a black mascara. To complete the look, Kaliardos used a creamy lip gloss with a pale pink sheen. “Some people are actually afraid to use a pale color on dark skin, but it looks really fresh,” he said. “As long as its not too white or gray then a darker skinned girl can get away with a pale lip.”

Eva Mendes for Seductive Comfort

Eva Mendes is the model and spokesperson for Calvin Klein’s sexy new line, Seductive Comfort.

The line features a T-Shirt Bra, an Underwire Bra, and a Customized Lift Bra, and is specially designed to be comfortable for curvier women.

CK’s researchers found that 75% of women who go bra shopping are looking, first and foremost, for something comfortable. That’s why the bras are 25% spandex with microfiber and plush straps, and feature a cushion for the hook and eye in the back.

Read on for more information and our sexy gallery of Eva Mendes showing off how comfortable she is!

According to Calvin Klein representatives, most bra-makers make one cup size, like the B, to fit perfectly, then figure the other sizes mathematically. Not Seductive Comfort. Calvin Klein spent two years perfecting prototypes of each of the three new bras in each size.

The sizes range from 30 to 38, A-DD. Interesting fact: With the Customized Lift Bra, the amount of padding decreases as the cup size increases (a sneaky plot to make all breasts the same size).

Looking for an evening outfit that’s polished but still smoking hot? Start with a couple extra-feminine pieces — like Eva’s slim pencil skirt and décolleté-enhancing blouse — that are as sophisticated as they are sexy. To keep the look designer (instead of, um, desperate), choose classic, low-key accessories like diamond studs and a pair of sleek black pumps.

Eva Longoria-Parker – Look For Less

As actress Eva Longoria knows, good things come in small (and gorgeous!) packages.

The sultry star of “Desperate Housewives” (which kicks off its new season this weekend) relies on perfectly-proportioned separates to elongate her petite frame. And although she’s only 5′ 2″, her outfits always pack plenty of sex appeal, since she opts for fitted tops, deep necklines, and a curve-hugging skirt or pants.

Fortunately, it’s a look that can be achieved on any budget, even if you don’t live on Wisteria Lane.

Even jeans and a simple top can be glamorous and sexy. To give your basic weekend look some va va voom, pair a fluid top in a soft, flattering color (like this sweet shade of pink) with shapely snug jeans. And don’t forget a couple bold accessories, like Eva’s snakeskin peep-toes and Valentino bag.
